About a Ring

To find a suitable wedding ring is quite a tough task to both of us especially when we both don’t have any preferences on what to look for.Beside the budget limit, the other preferences are rather vague. And being me, who can be indecisive at times, my mind can easily changed after going in and out from few jeweleries shop. ;)

Compared to him who did the research more on the characteristic of each jeweleries we looked at, I am more interested to the facts that I learn during this ring-hunting process. So below are my findings during this past few weeks’ wandering activity from shop to shop.

Type

Basically,a wedding ring can be categorized to 2 type which is wedding band (the simple one with no stone or stucked-in stone on it, more like cincin belah rotan) or engagement ring who can also be a wedding ring (the one with stone, and normally the width of the ring is smaller than the band). For me, the former fits my preference better than the latter due to few reasons :

  1. Im quite skinny and my finger knuckle size influenced my ring size (where the knuckle is bigger than the finger itself). If I choose the latter, the stone will be moving a lot and most of the time it will probably be on the side of my finger rather than on the top/middle of it due to weight difference. Surely it’ll make me less comfy.
  2. Most of the latter have ‘pulled-out’ stone design which I don’t quite fancy. Reason? Well, obviously because I scared to ruin my clothes, esp the silk kurung and chiffon based selendang. (dahla aku ni cepat clumsy)

Material

Mainly can be divided to 3 type of materials :

  • Gold – Most people believe that gold is the most valuable jeweleries to buy and it’s good for future investment due to its high re-sell value. Too bad, there’s not much design for gold with diamond stone that within my liking, esp simple but yet elegant design. Most of them are flowery or complicated design with zircon stone (diamond look alike) that need to be re-polish from time to time because its trait which collect dust easily.
  • White Gold – Actually, diamond look better with white gold compared to gold. The only problem is, white gold can turn yellowish after certain period. It’s because its original substance is still gold (yellow by nature) where it’s alloyed with white metal like nickel or palladium to make it white.
  • Platinum – Rare material on Earth, and is originally white in appearance. That explained why the price is higher compared to others. However, from naked eyes you can’t differentiate between white gold and platinum easily. Yes,it’s true. The color wont fade, it’s just seeing the price tag making our pocket sakit!

And lately found another materials that caught my eyes which is

  • Rose Gold – the color looks like cincin suasa, not too brighty yellow like gold and I really2 love it. Especially when it combines 2 color, white and rose gold. Most of the design is simple and nice. Plus, the color won’t fade and the price is not as expensive as platinum.

After surveying here and there and after making him tired and confused with my indecisive attitude (hehe, thank God he’s still sabar with me) , I finally know what I want for my ring!

Just a note to myself, and to the readers out there (if any)

First, choose a design that symbolized yourself. As for me, I love simplicity and I believe less is more and simple is better. However I don’t like common design (ie, solitaire) coz its just not special. Rare design doesn’t mean you have to buy the expensive one. You need to have ur own originality. And make sure the ring that you gonna choose is comfy enough for daily wear.

Second, whatever it is that you have decided to buy as the ring, it still needs transparent discussion from both parties. Especially on the price wise. After all, it’s not the ring that you are going to marry, but to this person that you are going to spend your whole life with. coz ring is just a material thing. :)

So much of my rambles here, till then. toodles~! :bye:
